How to Connect Your WhatsApp Business Number
Apr 2, 2026·8 min read
Connecting a WhatsApp Business number to Wadwin isn't magic — it's Meta's Cloud API, wired into our app. Here's what you need, what happens in the background, and what to try when something goes wrong.
What you need before you start
- A Meta Business account you can log into (business.facebook.com).
- A phone number that isn't already tied to the consumer WhatsApp app in a way that blocks Business Platform use — for many teams that's a dedicated business line or a number Meta lets you verify for WhatsApp Business.
- Permission to install apps and approve Facebook Login / WhatsApp product access for your Business.
If you're ordering a number through a Wadwin-assisted flow, follow the in-app steps — they're tailored to that path. If you're bringing your own number, our connection guide walks through Meta's side in more detail.
How connection works (high level)
- You start from Onboarding (or Settings → WhatsApp) and use Connect with Meta.
- Meta asks you to pick a Business, a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA), and the phone number profile.
- Wadwin receives access tokens and phone number IDs from Meta so we can call the Cloud API on your behalf.
- Webhooks let Meta push inbound messages and status updates to Wadwin's servers in real time — you don't paste webhook URLs by hand in normal setup; the OAuth flow binds the right callback endpoints.
After a successful link, you'll see the number in Wadwin and messages will route to Inbox for that workspace.
What happens after you're connected
- Inbound messages create or update conversations and contacts scoped to your workspace.
- Outbound replies use the same number ID Meta gave the connection.
- Template sends for marketing or utility use the templates approved on that WABA (managed inside Wadwin's template tools where your role allows).
Troubleshooting common errors
"Can't find my Business"
Make sure you're logged into Meta with an account that administers the Business — not just a personal profile with no access.
Number already in use
A number can only be active on one WhatsApp Business Platform setup at a time. You may need to remove it from another provider or complete Meta's migration steps. See Migration if you're moving from another BSP.
OAuth finishes but inbox stays empty
Check that the correct workspace and WhatsApp number are selected in the app. Allow a minute for webhook delivery; if nothing arrives, confirm the number can receive a test message from an allowed tester in Meta.
Permission / token errors
Reconnect through Connect with Meta so scopes are refreshed. If your Meta password or Business roles changed, you may need to approve the app again.
